Khadifa Wong, the director of Uprooted The Journey of Jazz Dance shares everything about her film, its beginnings and to now as it has begun winning film festival awards. This documentary film features some of dance's prolific and most respected artists as they open up about where jazz is today and how we need to keep this wonderful art form alive. Khadifa's blocks to creativity with this project continued to grow for almost 4 years and what came to fruition is a wonderfully historical and educational film for everyone to enjoy. When asked if there were obstacles... the real one she encountered during her journey was hearing the misinformation of what jazz means and the perception of jazz dance. Through this film she hopes to not only bring jazz dance to the forefront of everyone's minds but to create conversations...and that it is definitely doing.
